What Is a Registered Dietitian?

... An expert in food and nutrition who is qualified to help you make realistic, sensible and medically-sound changes in your eating habits...
You should only seek nutrition counseling from Registered Dietitians. That's because not all people who call themselves "Nutritionists" or Nutrition Counselors" are really qualified to help you.
The first thing to look for are the letters "RDN" after the name. "RDN" stands for Registered Dietitian/ Nutritionist, and means that the nutritionist has been certified by the American Dietetic Association.
To be certified, the dietitian must have at least a baccalaureate degree in foods, nutrition or a related science and have completed an approved dietetic internship or the equivalent. Additionally, the "RDN" must have passed a national examination and must maintain a required number of continuing-education credit hours.

What Is a Certified Diabetes Educator?
A Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) has a proven number of hours in helping diabetics, has passed a written exam and meets national standards.
Diabetes educators specialize in the treatment of diabetes and helping you take charge of the way you feel by teaching you the best foods and times for you to eat.
